Ethereum faces a great failure in the development of its next update, Pectra. After a number of problems that crippled, Ethereum developers decided to start a “Shadow Testnet”. Although the failures are not directly associated with Pecra, the tests brought the brake and potentially pushed it to its deployment, which was originally planned for the beginning of spring.
Ethereum: “Shadow fork” that will save the Pecra after the bullshit
While the first tests of the Pectra update to Testnet Sepolia were convincing, a new mistake that occurred just after sophisticated doubts. This opposite in combination with the persistent decay of tolets, which lasted from February 24, complicates the Ethereum calendar and raises concerns about the stability of the ecosystem before the final commitment.
To avoid significant delays, the Ethereum Foundation and Protocol developers decided to create a “shadow fork” from Holesky. This parallel version of the testnet will continue research and ensure the stability of the Pectra upgrade.
During a call from Ethereum developers (Call ACD Call 152), researcher Alex Stokes confirmed that after an alles error will not be functional after the end of March. To continue the tests immediately, the Parithosh Jayanthi, a research worker of the Ethereum Foundation Foundation, proposed to quickly start the clone of the existing test.
Impacts on applications and continuing events
This strategy is not new: Ethereum already used a shadow fork to test the transition to evidence (PO) in 2022. However, some are afraid of the complexity and costs of such an operation. Shadow Fork should count as many validators as tolets, but the uncertainties remain in their compatibility with applications such as Lido or Aave.

Despite these uncertainties, the consensus is to quickly trigger a shadow fork and assess its efficiency before the final decision. Especially because Pectra remains a decisive upgrade for Ethereum.

Although problems persist, this pragmatic solution could keep Pectra on the rails and strengthen the adaptability of Ethereum in finding efficiency and innovation in the face of its community expectations.
